Waiting

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.” -Psalm 130:5-6

I have to be honest, I am not the most patient person. It is an area of sin that I often repent of before the Lord, sometimes daily.  Part of my impatience comes in times of waiting. This can be a double-edged sword for me because I’m confident the Lord has given me the gift to discern and see the Lord’s hand when He is at work. Because of this, I have a propensity to move ahead of His work and timing. Moving ahead of His work is my broken flesh proclaiming, “Lord, I’ve got this…I’ll take it from here.”

Elizabeth Eliott wrote, “He makes us wait. He keeps us on purpose in the dark. He makes us walk when we want to run, sit still when we want to walk, for He has things to do in our souls that we are not interested in.” This quote is a profound reminder of the Lord and His work in our waiting. Many of the things we long for are just fleshed-filled empty vessels compared to what the Lord has planned. In our waiting, the Lord desires us to draw near to him. In our waiting, He desires for us to grow in him. In our waiting, He is preparing us for His will. In our waiting, He is sanctifying us for what is to come.

As the New Year approaches, I encourage you to be purposeful in waiting on the Lord. It is really easy for us to get distracted by what the world says we should be pursuing. What if your main pursuit for 2024 is to wait; wait on the Lord? Wait on His timing. Wait for His will. I’m confident that your waiting will be a hope-filled, faith-filled season.

I love you guys and consider it an honor to serve as your pastor.

Blessings,
