Reason for the Season

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:6

During this Christmas season, there is a great deal of excitement around us! We wrap and give out presents, bake some yummy cookies, and put up awesome lights! But as we have fun with our family and friends, let us not forget the real reason we celebrate Christmas.

We don’t celebrate Christmas just for the fun of it or just to give and get more STUFF. The reason we celebrate Christmas is to remember our Savior, Jesus. Just as our monthly memory verse says, “to US a child is born, to US a son is given,” and John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” We celebrate Christmas because our Father sent his Son for us! He saw that we couldn’t reach him on our own, so he sent his son as a mediator for us!! We should be grateful to Him and have Him at the center of our minds at all times!

I encourage you during this Christmas season to reflect on why you are celebrating. Is it just about giving or receiving gifts? Or is it to honor and glorify our Savior? Thanking Him for sending His one and only son for us!!

Have a great Christmas day, and make Jesus be the one you are setting your mind on!!!
