Go Weekend Reflections
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Last weekend, 12 of us attended Calvary’s Go Weekend—a time filled with good food, laughter, and deep purpose. We enjoyed carne asada tacos, donuts, Syrian food from Mango House, Jubilee coffee, and Chick-fil-A. But far beyond the meals and fellowship, the weekend stirred our hearts for God’s mission to take the gospel to all nations (Rev. 7:9-10).
On Friday night, Robbie Halleen reminded us of the staggering need for the gospel among unreached people groups. Over 3 billion people in our world today are considered unreached. This doesn’t just mean they’re “lost”—they have no access to the gospel. No one around them knows about Jesus. They will be born, live, and die without ever hearing His name.
That reality should move us to respond.
For some, God may be calling you to go—to live among these people groups, share the good news, and help plant churches.
For others, the call may be to give—to support missionaries who are faithfully serving in these hard-to-reach places.
And for all of us, the call is to pray.
If we truly believe that God hears our prayers (1 John 5:14), we should regularly be on our knees in prayer for the lost and the persecuted. Let’s pray for the unreached who have yet to hear the name of Jesus, and for our brothers and sisters around the world who risk everything to follow Him. Let’s not let a single day pass without praying for the missionaries who have answered God’s call to go.
Praying for the unreached doesn’t have to be difficult. Tools like the Joshua Project app can help by providing an “Unreached People Group of the Day,” along with information and specific ways to pray.
Friend, let’s come before the Father daily—for those who do not yet know Him, both here in our own community and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
Would you join me this week in committing to pray for the 3 billion people who will never hear the gospel unless someone goes?
