One Heart & Soul
Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. - Acts 4:32
In Acts 4:32, we read, “Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul…they had everything in common.” What a beautiful picture of gospel unity! The early believers, though from diverse backgrounds and stories, were united by the Spirit through their shared faith in Christ. Their love for Jesus overflowed into a love for one another; a love so genuine that it transformed how they lived, gave, and served.
This is the kind of unity Jesus prayed for in John 17. On the night before His suffering, our Savior lifted His eyes to the Father and said, “That they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You.” This is not a call for uniformity or sameness; it is a call for Spirit-led oneness that reflects the very nature of the Triune God. The unity of the Church is meant to mirror the unity of the Father, Son, and Spirit; a unity founded on truth, bound by love, and empowered by grace.
In a world fractured by division, Christ calls His people to live as one body; humble, forgiving, patient, and devoted to one another. This unity is not achieved by our strength but is received as a gift from the Spirit. When the Church embodies this kind of love, the world recognizes something distinctly appealing: the glory of Jesus made visible in His people.
So, brothers and sisters, let us guard the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Let us pray for one heart and one soul, anchored in the gospel, that the beauty of Christ would shine through His Church.
Blessings,
Pastor Kris
