All Authority
Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” - Psalm 2:1-6, ESV
I was reading this recently, and it struck me that God takes our problems seriously, but like a loving father who understands far more than his young children. We lose our minds when things do not go our way, especially when things go wrong for us.
God is all-wise. As we get sideways when the “cards” are stacked against us, when people come against us, or when we are stuck in awful circumstances, God laughs at those people or circumstances coming against us because he has set His King on Zion, his holy hill. And to that King has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, and that King is with us to the end of the age (Matthew 28:18-20). King Jesus is on the throne, reigning right now over your circumstances and over the people who wish you harm. Even if they are working for your harm, he has authority.
Rest in this truth, church! Jesus has not lost control. He is very much in control, and he is a good King who fought and won for your good (Romans 8:28-30)
