Supernatural Unity
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind”
-1 Peter 3:8
At the heart of this truth is the reality that our unity with one another flows out of our union with Christ. Through faith, we have been united to Christ in His death and resurrection (Romans 6:5). His life is now our life; His righteousness is now our covering; His Spirit is now our bond. This is why we can live in unity—not because we always think alike or share the same backgrounds, but because we share the same Savior. The gospel offers us one unshakable foundation, one united family, one hopeful future.
Our union with Christ shapes the way we love one another. Because Christ has entered our suffering with sympathy, we are freed to join the burdens of our brothers and sisters. Because He has shown us brotherly love, even calling us His friends (John 15:15), we extend that same love in word and deed. Our tenderness and humility toward one another spring from the humility of Christ, who stooped so low as to wash His disciples’ feet and give His life for us.
Practically, this means that in Christ we are patient with one another’s weaknesses, quick to forgive offenses, and eager to encourage. We do not cling to pride or preferences, but to Christ Himself, who holds us all together.
Brothers and sisters, our unity is not fragile; it is anchored in Christ’s finished work. When our church family walks this way, we display something the world cannot explain, a supernatural unity rooted in Christ’s love. Let us live as those who are truly one with Him, so that the world may see in us a living testimony of His redeeming love.
Blessings,
Kris
